Twhirl, Twitter, FriendFeed .. Can It Work Again?

by Stu Andrews on August 20, 2008

in Words

I’m not referring to the Services themselves working, but to MY use of them.

My last journey into the world of Social Networking ended when Twitter stopped it’s jabber (and thus Gtalk) support for me. This kind of waned all other interests.

Now I’m using Twhirl, and it seems pretty cool. My biggest gripe so far is that CTRL-Backspace doesn’t do what I want it to :).

The Config windows are simple. Twhirl runs on Adobe Air, and looks .. “air-ee”. It allows me to follow Twitter posts and FriendFeed conversations. Also has support for other Services. Considering it’s now owned by Seesmic, it supports them too.

So maybe it’s back in my bloodstream. In my routine. We’ll see.

Hey Stu,
I recently downloaded Thwirl but find it’s too “noisy” – I am not a fan of information overload – I strive to remain productive! lol

Do you have any tutorials on how to productivly use Thwirl? I think Thwirl is cool but I can’t stand the constant beeps!

I appreciate you!

Dali,

Thanks for the comment.

Twhirl is very noisy. You can limit the noise to some extent, but in the end, if you want productivity in other areas you should turn it off.

The best thing about Twhirl, or one of them, is that you can SOAK up the noise. That’s what a guy like Robert Scoble does really well.

It provides me with Instant Messaging capabilities to Twitter and Friendfeed (and some others). This is the main reason why I use it. And I only started using it because Twitter turned off it’s IM capabilities for me (anyone outside the states i think).

Anyway, thanks for visiting.
