My First Blog

August 18th, 2008 by Stu · No Comments

A few years back, 2004 to be exact, I created my own very simple and very broken blogging system. I didn’t know what a blog was really, nor had I heard of blog engines .. but I knew I wanted to get creative.

The Questioning Ones was the result. It was handcrafted with a php backend to allow for entering posts. It was broken and incomplete, but it was a first.

The BuffyVerse

August 13th, 2008 by Stu · No Comments

I’m a few episodes away from finishing Season 2 of Buffy. What a ride so far. It’s kind of wierd watching a show that has been over for so long. But then it’s not. I read books that are older, over and over again.

It’s the story-telling that really has me gripped. The turns, unexpected and .. expected. The huge amount of foreshadowing, and backshadowing (not really a word) too. References to things gone past. It’s very cool.

I’ve been sick the past two days, which meant a lot of lying around feeling sorry for myself. Thus was able to watch a stupid number of episodes of Buffy.

Escaping The Escapist

What happened?

theescapist-001

This is what The Escapist used to look like.

(On the side, how AWESOME is the Archives website!)

I remember when the Escapist Magazine was a really clean and lean .. machine. It was a games magazine without the ads for light-speed graphics cards. It was a comic without ads about getting sand kicked in your face. It was TV without ads for beer and lotto and ..

Stopping now. I guess, what I loved about reading the Escapist, the old Escapist, was this:

It was like watching your favourite TV show on DVD. No ads. Nothing but the content you  were reading.

It’s not any more (and it happened quite a while ago).

Ever Tried Writing A Crime Show?

August 7th, 2008 by Stu · No Comments

I did. A few years back.

So I discovered this old story, 3 episodes, and have started releasing them, a chapter at a time, on Taels Online.

The Daine Stevens Mysteries: Bigger Brother, Chapter 1.
