The First Database Post

Hey hey!

This is the first news post entered from the website itself, and placed into the database, and then got back out of the database to your browser .. all by code and stuff :)

It’s one step closer to having the site go live.

Please continue to let me know what you think about the site .. It’s a long process, but your help has been invaluable.

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

It’s Been a Long Time ..

.. But hey! We’ve come a long way!

You might notice the new menu above :) And the forums are up and running. I have yet to finish the database side of the site, posting news and that sort of thing, but it’s close to being done.

There might be a few missing links on the menu. If you find anything that is wierd, or have any problems viewing the site, please let me know.

It’s all very exciting. May the Lord bless this endeavour, glory to Him!

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

Daylight’s not Saving me Anything

Have been feverishly working on learning javscript-ing to give the site a much better layout. Drop-down menus, image preloading,  that sort of thing.

This will better facilitate the new ideas and elements that will be incorporated into the site.

And yes, Daylight Savings has knocked me for six, as probably all of you too. You get used to it, but the first couple of days are pretty exhausting.

More soon.

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

The Other Side of the Roswell Coin ..

.. Is living for that feeling. This is something to be avoided at all costs. Constantly thinking about, and wishing we could have that feeling will bring corruption. Living in this world means that there will be times you don’t have that feeling. In fact, most of the time you won’t be getting on or off the "camp high".

This is not a bad thing. We can see the consequences of seeking out this feeling. People are not content. A husband will lose interest in his wife. A school friend will find someone more interesting. The media will love you for 15 minutes.

This is a great tool used by the Devil. The constant need for the new and better and "that feeling". There is no contentment.

And it’s more than contentment. It’s having our foundation in Christ, our love set and based in and on and through him. There is another feeling that far surpasses the first. It is our relationship with God Almighty. To rest in Him, and His peace, convicted of our sin, repentant and believing. It is seeking His will, meditating upon His word, meeting with Him daily.

It’s living in the world but not of the world – and all that that entails.

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

The Roswell Incident

Watched Roswell again last night. And again, it was a great episode. There was development to main story, with the sub-stories weaving themselves around it with ingenuity and skill. Dialogue was witty and Max was his usual smouldering, brooding self.

I did a little research on the net, finding out a bit more about the show. I watched the first few episodes way back when it first aired here. The show was almost cancelled, but the fans put together a great deal of support I believed, and convinced the network to continue production. From what I did find, the show is again cancelled after it’s third season (the one airing here now).

Then I began to read some of the older episode transcripts.

A couple of hours later I pulled myself out and realised what was happening. I was inside the world that is the Roswell TV show. Empathising with characters, laughing at their jokes, and wishing I could be with them. Be a friend to them.

Summer Camp. In Australia, NSW Presbyterian Youth have Summer Camp at Christmas time for a week. After you leave there’s that feeling of emptiness lingering around inside. It was always really strong with me.

I’ve not been to a Summer Camp for a few years now, but I’ve definitely had the feeling since. Every time I start thinking about how much my Wife is part of my life, or my Kids. How much I love them. When I think about my Parents, or my Brother and Sisters.

That’s very similar to the feeling I had after spending the time reading the episode transcripts. Not as strong, but on a parallel.

How can people writer such emotion into their creation? How can I get so affected by it? And why? AND, what is the deal with that feeling?

I believe it is because we have eternity set in our hearts.

There is a definite danger in getting into anything of the world too much. I’m not rejecting this. But that feeling is a reflection of something deeper within us.

We were made first and foremost to glory God Almighty. To have a relationship with Him. To be in a right relationship with our Maker. And sinners that have been saved by His grace long to be united together at the last.

And that is what this is all about. For me, I think these feelings are a shadow of Heaven. What it will be like .. Perfect relationships. We will be living in the Land of the King, that glorious place, and we will be perfect.

So where does this leave Roswell? I’m still going to watch it. It’s a great show. But I’m going to be careful not to let it become to me what my hope in Heaven is. Try and stand on anything of this world and it will crumble. Our hope is Christ, he is our rock, the one and only foundation upon which we can stand.

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

A Birthday of Sorts

Wow! A week has gone by already!

Last night I sat down and prayerfully considered the site and it’s purpose. There are going to be some exciting developments coming. Articles, Interviews, Reviews .. and let’s not forget those Message Boards.

I want this site to be about encouragement and conviction.

More soon ..

Goodwill and Salutations to you all,

State of the Forums

The forums are installed onto the web server on my notebook, now we just have to wait until the site gets moved to it’s new place of hosting. What it all boils down to is probably three weeks wait. Two weeks until the move and another week setting up and structuring the forums.
